In a survey, there are 53% of mobile sites takes more than three seconds to load. So that you can’t engage more users to your sites on mobile and bouncing rate also increased for that much of speed lagging while opening a sites.
So that, Google has launched AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) for mobile sites that will reduced the lazy loading and gives you a better performance without losing your content. On your WordPress blog or site, there is an AMP plugin that available on Plugin store where you can install that plugin and customise. Here, we are going discuss briefly about How to Install AMP plugin and set up it on your WordPress blog. Before enter into the topic, you will be aware of the terms like What is AMP?
What is Google AMP?
Google Accelerated Mobile Pages, in short AMP is an open source mobile initiative from Google that can speeding up the mobile web. It essentially lets you create stripped-down versions of your posts and pages and serve them up to mobile visitors. For those mobile users visiting from Google search engine, Google will cache AMP content and load it faster than regular mobile sites. Your site will be look like this, there is a shock symbol with the letter ‘AMP’ in below of the search result.
However, Google added AMP does not currently have a direct effect on your site’s search engine rankings, it gives a chance to get more clicks for the eye-catching AMP icon and featured carousel.
How to Set Up Google AMP for WordPress Blog
WordPress is one of the best platform for your websites or blogs and also it is a widely used platform throughout the world. Google reduced the work for WordPress users, you need not to be a best in coding to make your mobile sites faster. Google AMP launched its official plugin on WordPress and you can install it over there. Here I am sharing how to configure Google AMP in step by step.
Step 1: Login to your WordPress and Go to Plugins where you need to search for AMP. An AMP plugin by Automattic is an official plugin for mobile accelerated sites. Install and Activate it on your WordPress blog.
Step 2: After successfully activated the plugin, now your site is good to open in Accelerated mobile pages but all the previous post will not comes to show in AMP. Future posts only displayed on AMP and load faster than before. If you want to make previous posts to load faster using AMP then you need to add “/amp“ at end of the posts & pages and run the URL. Then, run it for yourself and submit to Google by updating the post.
Step 3: After entering AMP at end of the URL, you will see AMP based post of your’s but it looks simple. There is no logo, no menu bar, no ads to be displayed on the site. So that, you need to add another plugin to customize the AMP blog. That is called AMP for WP – Accelerated Mobile Pages which is also available on WordPress plugins.
Step 4: After Successfully Installed the above shown plugin and Activate it. Once you have Activated the plugin, Go to AMP.
Step 5: After clicking on the AMP, it will takes you to AMP for WP page where you can customize your Accelerated Mobile Pages including Logo changes, insert ads on AMP, add your Analytics code, add social links, add menus and more.
In the General tab, you can upload your Logo for AMP version, mobile redirection, add your Google Analytics code over there, select Front Page and more.
In the Advertisement tab, you can add multiple Adsense ad blocks over there. Currently, AdSense is the only network supported by the plugin, However changes will takes place in future.
In the Menu tab, you can configure menu after clicking Add menus link. Then it takes you a Menu window where you can see AMP Menu and select the menu if already created or else create a new menu for AMP.
In the Single tab, where you can set up the actual format for your AMP-enabled posts. You can select show/hide featured images, comments, social icons, and more here.
In the Social tab, you can enable or disable individual Social media networks over there.
In the Structured Data tab, where you can set default widths/heights for your pages, as well as a default featured image.
The Custom CSS Editor allows you to include any other custom CSS snippets you’d like to add. These style changes will only affect your AMP pages.
Step 6: Click on Save Changes button and save the page for AMP.
Step 7: Then, Go to Appearance -> AMP to customize the visual style of the AMP pages.
After customize it, now you can enable and give a fast loading experience to mobile users.
